CRD865-BAS Series Quick-Release Dock for MDT880 & MDT865
Entry-level removable vehicle docking station shared across the MDT880 and MDT865 rugged tablets. The CRD865-BAS series provides the base power and peripheral interfaces for fleets that need a quick-release cradle without the extended I/O of the higher-tier CRD865 or CRD880 configurations.
The series covers five distinct cable configurations across the two platforms — three exclusive to the MDT880, one exclusive to the MDT865, and one shared between them. Each configuration is identified below by its interface set, with platform availability noted per configuration.
Naming note: The TYPE-A/B/C/D labels are sequence identifiers used within each platform's documentation. The same physical cradle is used across the series, but the cable harness differs. Because the two platforms document their configurations in a different order, a TYPE letter does not map to the same interface set across platforms. For example, MDT880 TYPE-B and MDT865 TYPE-D refer to the same car-charger configuration. Select by the interface set shown below rather than the letter alone.

Single RS232 Cradle — MDT880 TYPE-A
Entry configuration providing one RS232 serial channel and stable vehicle power. No USB expansion, no camera input. Suitable for basic tablet mounting where the only requirement is vehicle power and one serial peripheral.

Platform availability: MDT880 (as TYPE-A). Not offered for MDT865.
Car Charger Cradle — MDT880 TYPE-B / MDT865 TYPE-D
Charging-only configuration. Provides 12V/24V vehicle power input with no data interface. Used where the tablet is mounted for charging and display purposes without any peripheral connection — for example, passenger-facing information displays or secondary in-cab screens.
Interface Summary
Platform availability: Shared. Referred to as TYPE-B on the MDT880 and TYPE-D on the MDT865. Same cable harness, same physical dock, same interface set.
RS232 with USB-A OTG — MDT880 TYPE-C
Adds one USB-A OTG port to the entry RS232 interface. Suitable for basic installations that need one USB peripheral — keyboard, barcode scanner, or the optional EXT-USB-CAN-01 CAN Bus adapter — alongside vehicle power and one serial device.
Interface Summary
Platform availability: MDT880 (as TYPE-C). Not offered for MDT865. This is the only CRD865-BAS configuration that supports the optional EXT-USB-CAN-01 CAN Bus adapter.
RS232 with 4-Channel Camera Hub — MDT880 TYPE-D
Extends the entry cradle with a 4-channel AHD camera hub for multi-camera mobile digital video recording. Provides one RS232 serial channel, four camera inputs with four trigger lines, and stable vehicle power. Suitable for fleets that require multi-camera recording alongside a single serial peripheral.
Interface Summary
Platform availability: MDT880 (as TYPE-D). Not offered for MDT865. For the MDT865 equivalent camera option, see Configuration 5 below.
RS232 with Camera on Cradle — MDT865 TYPE-C
Provides one RS232 serial channel and one built-in camera input on the cradle itself. Suitable for MDT865 deployments that require a single camera feed — rear-view monitoring or a specific equipment view — alongside a serial peripheral and vehicle power.
Interface Summary
Platform availability: MDT865 (as TYPE-C). Not offered for MDT880. Note that this is the only CRD865-BAS configuration with a camera input available on the MDT865 — it does not support multi-camera recording via a camera hub.
What the 4-Channel Camera Hub Enables
The 4-channel AHD camera hub (available in Configuration 4 — MDT880 TYPE-D) allows the tablet to capture video from up to four cameras simultaneously — driver view, road view, side view, and rear view — for mobile digital video recording (MDVR). Trigger lines allow specific camera events to be marked or activated based on vehicle signals such as brake, turn indicator, or door open. Suitable for fleet safety, incident recording, and driver monitoring.

Camera coverage for reversing, lane changes, and side-mirror blind spots.

EXT-USB-CAN-01 — USB to CAN Bus Adapter Cable
Available for the RS232 + USB-A OTG configuration (MDT880 TYPE-C) only — the sole CRD865-BAS variant with a USB-A OTG port. Adds up to 2 CAN Bus channels to a deployment that already uses the dock's RS232 channel, ideal for MDT880 installations that need basic CAN Bus access without upgrading to a higher-tier dock.

Note: Connects to the TYPE-C dock cable's USB-A OTG port and presents a CAN Bus interface to the Android OS through the standard SocketCAN driver stack. CAN Bus termination and baud rate configuration are handled at the software level.

Select the car charger configuration if the tablet is mounted for charging and display only. Select the RS232 + USB-A OTG configuration if you need one USB peripheral — keyboard, scanner, or the optional EXT-USB-CAN-01 CAN Bus adapter — alongside a serial device. Select the RS232 + 4-channel camera hub configuration if you require multi-camera recording with trigger-based events. Select the RS232 + camera-on-cradle configuration if you need a single camera feed alongside one serial device.
By platform: MDT880 deployments can select any of the four MDT880 configurations (single RS232, car charger, RS232 + USB OTG, RS232 + camera hub). MDT865 deployments select from the car charger configuration (shared with MDT880 TYPE-B) and the RS232 + camera-on-cradle configuration (MDT865 TYPE-C). If your deployment needs extended serial (dual RS232, RS485), GPIO, or native CAN Bus, refer to the higher-tier CRD865 series. If the dock must be permanently mounted rather than removable, refer to the BKT865 series.
