What Native CAN Bus Enables in Fleet Deployment
A native CAN Bus channel allows the tablet to listen on the vehicle's J1939 network without an external adapter or gateway. This enables hardware-level access to engine RPM, fuel consumption, fault codes, brake status, and auxiliary equipment telemetry directly from the docked tablet. Combined with dual independent RS232 channels and four GPIO lines, the dock provides a complete vehicle integration platform in a single removable cradle. Additional CAN Bus channels can be added later through the two USB-A OTG ports using the optional EXT-USB-CAN-01 adapter.

Select CRD865-CAN when your MDT865 deployment requires a removable cradle with native CAN Bus access alongside dual independent RS232 channels and GPIO — heavy-duty truck telematics, mining fleet diagnostics, and any integration where the tablet must read vehicle J1939 data directly while running two serial peripherals. If your deployment needs additional CAN Bus channels beyond the native one, the two USB-A OTG ports support the optional EXT-USB-CAN-01 adapter to add up to 2 further channels. If you require dual native CAN Bus channels from the outset, the CRD880-CAN provides that interface set for the MDT880. If CAN Bus is not required but dual RS232 is, the CRD865 (TYPE-A) offers dual RS232 with a different serial architecture.
EXT-USB-CAN-01 — USB to CAN Bus Adapter Cable
Adds CAN Bus capability to any MDT865 docking station equipped with a USB-A OTG port, including the CRD865-CAN's two available OTG ports. One adapter cable supports up to 2 CAN Bus channels, enabling additional vehicle network access without replacing the existing cradle — ideal for retrofit deployments, pilot fleets, or vehicles that require additional CAN data only in specific configurations.
Key Specifications
Note: Connects to the dock cable's USB-A OTG port and presents a CAN Bus interface to the Android OS through the standard SocketCAN driver stack. CAN Bus termination and baud rate configuration are handled at the software level.

The CRD865-CAN is built specifically for the MDT865 mechanical and electrical interface, providing VCC/IGN DC12–36V input, dual RS232, one native CAN Bus channel, and four GPIO. It is not compatible with the MDT880 or MDT1065.
